- Severe storms are expected in the South and Ohio Valley through Thursday.
- Tornadoes, damaging winds and large hail are all threats.
- Some tornadoes in the South could be strong.
Severe storms expected, Thursday in Texas as a squall line is expected to come through about 3pm to 6pm for the DFW area and the line will move eastward arriving more in the evening on the east side of Texas and Louisiana. This is due to the extreme moisture coming in from the Gulf of Mexico clashing with the active jet stream which is positioned a bit lower in the plains. As this storm moves through states in the north and north east will be experiencing snow and ice accumulations. March, April and May has the most potential for severe weather outbreaks in Texas and Tornado Alley which covers the states in the plains (center states) and states in the mid-plains moving eastward are the states most affected by the change of season from winter to spring. The same happens in the fall, when the warm air is being pushed out by the arctic cold that's coming from the north. severe storms are very common in the plains of the US during seasonal change.

https://weather.com/storms/tornado/news/2023-03-14-severe-storm-forecast-tornado-wind-damage-texas-south The potential for severe weather will peak on Thursday and Thursday night: We expect the potential for severe storms from around the Interstate 35 corridor in central and northern Texas into parts of southern Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and far western Mississippi. Damaging wind gusts, large hail and a few tornadoes could accompany some of the storms, particularly in the afternoon and evening hours. The greatest chance for destructive large hail and concentrated wind damage is in the area shaded red on the map below, including the Dallas-Fort Worth metro.
The south in the US has had a pretty active and volatile spring this year. Last week we had an extremely volatile storm that carried sustained winds up to 85mph, which is the equivalent to anEF1 or Category 1 hurricane and the problem with sustained winds like this is the whole DFW area was under threat, as if a tornado was cutting a path through all of North Texas. We still have to check our roof.
Today,we are under another severe threat. I just checked for a weather update and we are expecting all modes of bad weather and potentially some really big hail.
I started my spring cleaning this week and had moved stuff on the patio to be dealt with (you know the keep, toss or throw thing) and yesterday,I spent hours outside taking care of it to get ready for today. We are currently under a tornado watch until 8pm, but I suspect it will be switched to a warning by 5pm when the mayhem will begin. Super cells expected, which is a concern too, because they can pop up really fast with little warning.
