Sunny today, but it looks like our storm system wrecked havoc in Louisiana and several other southern states.

Clear and mild with 70 degrees today and through out the weekend.  Stormy weather comes back on Monday; potential for severe storms again.

Cloudy today and torrential rain coming in tonight through Saturday.  At least that's what the weather forecast says.  It always turns out to not be as extreme as it looks.  Oh, and the temperatures also turned cold enough to switch the heat back on for several days.  Very weird temperamental weather for April. 🤔

I just checked the weather forecast through the weekend and I'm surprised we have a "potential for severe weather", Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.   Last I looked there was an atmospheric river coming in from the west, lots of gulf moisture and a low pressure area.  I'll see what I can find out that's a bit more detailed through Accuweather.  Accuweather is more detailed than the Weather Channel, at least they still take time to write about what is actually causing the weather event.  Wunderground, used to be the best, but they stopped their section Category 6.

One of the most widespread severe weather events so far in 2024 will unleash tornadoes, hard-hitting hail and damaging winds across a dozen states starting on Thursday and continuing throughout the weekend.

    Well, here it is:

I suppose we need to really pay attention to our weather of these next several days.  Y'all stay safe!

We have continued to have severe storms each week.  Such unusual severe spring weather.  We have another severe storm foretasted for tonight. All I can say is that the humidity and due point is so high in Texas and this is not common. There are no big hair days that can make it through this weather. 🤣 Usually the jet stream is moving more northward and the heat starts a nice high pressure heat dome keeping any precipitation from coming in at this point in the spring.

I've been also watching the severe storms affecting other states too and the high amount of tornadoes and severity.  No EF5's, but other states have seenn EF4's and EF3's.  I'd like to know the tornado count so far.

Forecasters are predicting a three day storm weather event across many states.  After seeing so much damage already, I hope no one is hurt.

Texas and Oklahoma have had devastating destruction from a massive tornado to both property and humans last night, Saturday, May 26, 2024.

Interstate 35 area of Denton, Sanger, Pilots Point, Valley View and Celina all have severe damage of over turned tractor trailers, structural damage, downed power lines and known loss of life to seven people that perished in the storm.  There also are multiple over turned RV's and and mobile homes where people are trapped and needing rescue.  A Shell Gas Station collapsed on about 150 inside.  The sheriff is expecting a mass casualty event of people's lives lost in this gas station.  Crews are working now in that area.

Lake Ray Roberts sustained severe damage at their marina.  The marina is gone and numerous boats were sunk.  *I used to water ski at Lake Ray Roberts.

Search and Rescue is ongoing now that's it's daylight to give aid and find those affected by this severe storm event.

I was up past midnight tracking this storm.  I could clearly see on radar the powerful super cell that formed and I did capture the hook echo in a screen shot.  Not that any of this "science" part matters, however, it's always helpful to have knowledge in this case.  I was also on the phone with my mom at midnight.  The problem with watching the forecasts of weather emergencies on local TV stations is they give a broad forecast but also, if you don't know the cities that are in a path, you might think you are also in extreme danger.  I think it's always good to be familiar with your cities and counties so you have a good feel for your particular area in case of an emergency.  Thankfully, we have radar and maps, but they are only good as long as you keep internet.  In tornado alley, you may want to consider and emergency radio, as well, in case of a power outage.

This article highlights the storm event and also explains why this spring has had so many violent storms.

Experts say the Plains and parts of the South and Midwest have been subjected to a long and deadly tornado season during an epic and lasting clash between cold and warm influences.

Chief meteorologist Jeff Berardelli of NBC affiliate WFLA in Tampa, Florida, explained the recipe for whipped-up weather in a post on social media platform X:

“Big heat ridge parked over Mexico/Gulf, and cold pool over the Pacific NW [is] a perfect setup as disturbances ride a semi-stalled frontal boundary focusing storms over #Tornado Alley,” he said

I've been wondering why we have been having such a damaging spring storm season.  This is very unusual.

It's August, it's very hot, over 100F days and no rain for the month.  June was like August, July was mild for summer, as well.  Now we wait and see what comes from the 2024 hurricane season.  Beryl, so far, was the most extreme hurricane for summer of 2024.  Beryl, started in June and went from a Cat 5 to landing at a Cat 1 at the Texas coast.  The Sahara dust is dwindling, which means hurricane season is ramping up in the Atlantic ocean.

There's chatter that the Atlantic Ocean is clearing out the Sahara dust and September into October may be busy for Hurricane season due to the delay and lull in August.

Meanwhile in Texas.....We just had some rain for the first time in practically the whole summer.  I just checked our forecast and it looks like we have rain chances through next week.  Yay!!
