Thanksgiving, in the US, has become more controversial as Native Americans (Indigenous people) view it as a day of mourning. I totally understand and empathize with that viewpoint. Yes, I do have Indigenous ancestry (from both the US and Canada) and so perhaps my view is skewed some.







However, this post is about giving thanks. Not for any specific day per se. Reading this article about the Wampanoag, you'll perhaps get a different perspective of giving thanks.

I do understand how you feel about Thanksgiving and I've also referred to the history of Thanksgiving here at FR that involves the Wampanoag Tribes that were supportive and helped the Pilgram's thrive. Unfortunately the Wampanoag tribes were plagued by the diseases that the Pilgram's brought with them. I think there is still a small museum honoring this tribe of people in one of the northern states. I am thankful for my family, friends and my pets. These people are the amazing part of my life that makes it whole and without them, my life would be very dull. I'm thankful for the life I was given. I do include my online friends too as they are unique and some I've known as far back as 2007 with varied level of friendships from pen pal, texting, to annual phone calls. Sorry about the post and no paragraphs. It's very frustrating issue and even more frustrating when you count yourself a writer, as you do, and you want to twitch when you can't fix something.
