How to Stay Warm Without Power

Somewhere in Friend's Realm I've told the stories of how winter storms hit Texas in 2020, 2021 and 2023. It was serious survival mode stuff in zero degree temperatures. We all have PTSD from the experiences and as each winter approaches we have the same discussions about loosing power. Last week, we lost power most of the night. It was a large area in our county that lost power and there wasn't bad weather as the night before where we had torrential rains. I'd like to think that's not an omen of what our winter might be like, however, since we are in an El Nino pattern, this may portend to be a wetter than average winter and in the right conditions, more snow and ice than normal. The below link is an interesting take on how to manage power losses during bad weather. https://getpocket.com/explore/item/how-to-stay-warm-without-power?utm_source=pocket-newtab-en-us

In 2021, southern and midwestern states in the U.S. experienced huge rolling blackouts as a result of the severe Winter Storm Uri. Ice knocked out power lines in states like Louisiana and Mississippi, for example, while in Texas, more than 2.7 million Texans went without power as rare frigid temperatures combined with unprecedented surges in electricity demand to trigger a state of emergency.

In response, utilities in these states are urged residents to turn down the heat in order to keep their power grids up. But wait: How does lowering your thermostat keep your lights and heat on? Let’s consider the science.

We are without power for the second time this month. Really concerned now about winter arriving since its not even cold yet. I already called the power company. Two weeks ago it was downed trees. Too many incidents of power loss. :(

I don't have thermal blankets. I like this one you included in your link better and it's wool. Looks so warm, thank you!!
