What are the silliest or quirkiest things your family pet has ever done?

I have so many silly stories about my past and present dogs. I'll start this out and share this quirky behavior that both of my pom's have.

Here's the back story ~ About two years ago (my poms were maybe a year and a half old) I had cleared most of my living room furniture to one side to clean and wax my wood floors. It was kind of a half day chore, because I had to move furniture to one side, clean then wax, then repeat on the other side of the room. My dogs were somewhat displaced, because the furniture being moved was their red flag something was amok in their little world.

To let my dogs outside, there are two back door options. I always use the door off of my master bedroom because that door opens up to a area we've fenced off separately for our dogs from the bigger yard area. We have too many country critters here to let them roam about, but I digress. When it was time for them to go out, neither would walk on my newly waxed floor. When they tried, they scrambled like a cartoon road runner and backed up back to the tiled floor.

This little issue of them not walking on my wood floor is still an active issue as of today. I've had to create little carpet stepping stones for them to walk on to get to this other room. They've had runner carpets to walk on and so much more. Now my little Champy refuses to even walk on the little rugs and you know what he expects me to do? Yeah, you got it, he expects me to carry him to the other room. After they've been out and time to come back in, my little Champy will walk all the way to the entrance of the living room and just sit down and look at me to pick him up. Apparently, I've been trained by this little 8 pound fur-ball, haven't I? I have to remember not to forget him too, like yesterday. Bless him, he was waiting for awhile for me to figure out I forgot him. I do pick him up, because I suspect his knees hurt when he tries to get traction on the wood floor and that's probably where this all started.

He also has a little twist (literally) to this behavior too. Our kitchen and dining room has ceramic tile, and it leads to the living room wood floor. My little Champy once he nears the wood floor to the living room from the dining room, will do a full spin, and then enter on the small piece of wood floor before he gets to the safety of the carpet runner I have in front of the couch. It's like he's taking a brave pill moment, and the spin gives him courage. He does this every time, like Sheldon (Big Bang Theory) knocking on a door three times, that's my little Champy Bear. Someday, I'll try to get a video. You have to see it to believe it :D

Champybear is cute but hopeless lol, maybe one day he will have the courage to walk on the wooden floors once again XD

He's really a very docile little fur-ball....just so lovable but just as smart in training us to bow to his will because he's so darn adorable!

Exactly! He's very good at that :)

How lovely! I love to see it when different animals have so much love for each other, it's so heart warming :)

I love animals and couldn't live without them. They are so amazing, adorable, and silly. They make us laugh and feel better when we need it too!

Here's another short story....our Snowy Bear, an orange and white parti-pom (parti is a color marking of a Pomeranian), has a bit of a growly disposition. He could rival grumpy cat :D. He likes to be held and pet on his terms rather then yours.....so to illustrate, if you pick him up and hug him and hold him snugly, he will growl. It's not a mean growl, it's just a "hey, I'm not in control at the moment kind of growl". It's rather funny as he can get irritated really easy. The other side of him is he's such a cuddle-bear. When we are watching TV, he can't be close enough and literally won't move and is as happy as can be.

Snowy Bear also has one of the strongest herding genes I've ever encountered in a Pom. Pom's are part of the Spitz family of dogs, which are herding dogs. Snowy literally is so excited to go outside, he will bark insistently to corral everyone to join him. It's rather irritating at times as you are on your way to the back door, all of that barking :D. He's so good at it that now our little Chi-Chi (Chihuahua) Gidget will bark like a crazy little micro animal and the funny thing is, this is the only time she barks. I blame this little crazy barking display on Snowy Bear. Snowy started it and she has to join in to feel like she's part of the pack...lol :D

About six weeks ago, we had a severe electric storm come through with crazy lightening. During this storm, there was a loud explosion sound that came from my work out room. Later, I learned that my receiver blew during this storm. I can't say whether it was by the lightening strike or not, heat sink blew, because all of my other devices throughout the house were fine. I did learn from our neighbor that the house on the corner was severely struck by lightening and lost 75% of all of it's electric wiring, huge chunk of asphalt taken out from their patio from the strike and several bathroom cabinets blew off including all of the soot that blew through the living room from the fireplace because the initial strike was at the chimney. So why am I posting this story here? I have two dogs in my lap shaking because we are under a severe storm warning and are surrounded by lightening, thunder with heavy rain. My little Gidget has not been the same since that storm several weeks ago. Last week we had a severe storm and she panted heavily. I was so worried about her. I have a lightening jacket/comfort coat on her right now and she's in my lap doing a bit better. My Snowey Bear is also bothered by storms now and he's been in my office chair behind me hiding. Of course, this is not funny quirky stuff, but it is about animal behavior and how to best help our pets when they need us. My dd and I did learn today that when she was cooking in the kitchen, all of the dogs were focused on dinner more then the storm coming in. Once she was done cooking, they started feeling a bit anxious. My Champy Bear is the coolest "cat" in the bunch (he's a dog ) and is not affected by the storms.

Dogs have a way of telling you what they need. Every Pomeranian I've had does the ultimate stare down when they need something and it's up to me to figure out what they need. If both of my dogs are sitting in the kitchen together, it's either about food or they need fresh water. If my Snowey Bear starts following me around and keeps staring at me at every moment, then he's telling me he has to go outside. My other Pom, Champy Bear is just so freaking cute, he just looks at me and I usually have to pick him up and give him a hug.

It's been awhile since I've posted a silly dog quirk, because usually my dogs quirks are linear as they are adults, but some how, Champy Bear has some new quirks with treat eating and going outside.

In the morning, both Champy and Snowy, love their morning healthy soft chewy treats by Benefel which are really a soft version of kibble I like to give them in the morning to start out their day.  This started when they were young because my senior dog, Isabella, was in poor health and the soft food was easier for her to eat.  I also like to hand feed them this food as it's a bonding moment of the day.

To give them this treat, all portion the same amount in each hand and they gobble it up and then I'll give them some more.  The new behavior of Champy Bear is now he doesn't want to eat out of my hand, he wants me to give him one kibble at a time.  Good grief, this has been going on for three weeks now.  I can't seem to get him back to the original idea of taking the kibble out of my hand until it's empty.

The other quirky behavior he's doing, which is extremely annoying, bless his heart, is when it's time "to go out", he runs along with Snowy, Snowy makes it to the door like a normal dog would, but Champy is stopping at the outside of the room door and is expecting a personal invitation to proceed onward to the back door of the room to exit outside.  OMG, what's up with you Champy?  I'm really having to work on tasks that should be simple, yet you are changing the procedure lol. 😄
