Idalia will rapidly intensify over the next 24 hours to a Cat 3. Forecasters are not sure yet if it will remain a Cat 3 once it reaches the Florida coastline or be a Cat 1 when it arrives at the coast. This looks like a very concentrated storm with a lot of power when it strikes the coast with upwards of 11 feet storm surge. Please follow all of the evacuation recommendations by your Florida officials. Wishing everyone the best outcome and stay safe. https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/graphics_at5.shtml?start#contents

Looks like eyewall is supposed to land just north of Tampa and I just watched a recent update and forecasters say Idalia will hit land as a Cat 3.

Hurricane Idalia was devastating to many communities. There was a lot of flooding and water inundation from canals and rivers. Historically, this was also the first hurricane in over 100 years to reach the "Big Bend" area of Florida. https://www.msn.com/en-us/weather/other/see-what-hurricane-idalia-flooded-in-florida-s-big-bend/ar-AA1g8EC3

Hurricane Idalia’s massive storm surge tore through Florida’s Big Bend on Wednesday, likely flooding thousands of homes.

The surge, roughly 10 feet deep, arrived just after sunrise. Idalia’s landfall near Keaton Beach as a Category 3 hurricane was just days removed from its formation off the Yucatán Peninsula, 600 miles away.
