Winter Storm Mara

Winter Storm Mara is already here in Texas bringing ice.

A stationary front marking the boundary of a fresh arctic air mass will hang out from the Southern Plains to the East Coast. With an active jet stream riding over the top of it and moist air pulled north from the Gulf over the cold air, this is a prime setup for multiple rounds of snow, sleet and freezing rain on the cold side of that front.

Dangerous Ice Storm to continue through Thursday, covering several states.

A series of storms will take advantage of just enough cold air and ample moisture to produce a swath of ice that will stretch along a 1,000-mile-long area from the Rio Grande to parts of the Tennessee and Ohio valleys into Wednesday night. Travel may become extremely dangerous in some areas, and trees and power lines may come crashing down as the ice buildup continues.

"This is round after round after round of dangerous ice that will be disrupting travel in a large part of the south-central United States," AccuWeather Chief Meteorologist Jonathan Porter said. We are currently iced in. There's a difference between driving on snow and driving on ice. Ice is treacherous. We started out with a freezing rain yesterday that formed a complete glaze on the streets, then the sleet followed. Sleet is expected through Thursday morning. Wishing everyone in this storms path safety and warmth. Hope your power stays on. We are grateful for every hour we have today already where we have power. It's 26F, very cold.
