Scented Candle Concerns

I love scented candles. I moved to soy candles years ago but after reading the latest article in Women's Health, now I wonder if I have the right candles.

    Here's the article, https://www.womenshealthnetwork.com/detoxification/are-scented-candles-harmful-for-your-health/

Apparently, some soy candles are made of a combo of paraffin and soy. It's best to look for 100% soy or beeswax. But, it's not just that, it's also what the scent is from. Essential oils are best, apparently, but even that can be misleading as they candle scent could be a blend unless it says 100% essential oils. Best to get rid of the junk candles and buy old fashioned beeswax or soy and with 100% essential oils. Or, do some of the other suggestions in the article.

We have been concerned about scented candles for many years.  We've tried to keep in mind buying candles that were "essential oil" only, but your article clearly raises that concern again.  We've been guilty of falling for a special scent at times too.  Now I'm wondering about the "Air Wick" plugin things that are supposedly "essential oil" only, as they're marked that way differently from the originals?  Sheeesh....so many things to be concerned with, but I'll research that now too.

I will go through my candles as breathing in those chemicals are really dangerous and worse if you have autoimmune challenges or breathing issues.

I like this trick to deodorize the air.  I've used vinegar to mop with and have added essential oils to mask that vinegar smell.  Does a great job cleaning that way.

Spray air with vinegar to deodorize. If you use scented candles in the kitchen to get rid of cooking smells after meals, try this vinegar spray as an alternative for neutralizing unwanted odors. Mix equal parts water and white vinegar in a spray bottle and mist the air. The vinegar will help eliminate unpleasant smells by breaking down and neutralizing the stinky molecules, literally pulling them from the air.

Thanks for the link, @Techi Jedi!  A very helpful reminder that what we think is good for us, probably isn't.  I have to toss some candles. 🙄

Interesting, I'll check my candles! And thanks for the vinegar deodorizing idea, I already have a spray bottle mixed as I use it as an organic weed killer! 😃

Unfortunately, the modern mass produced candle is extremely toxic, as nice as they do smell. The only type of candle to not bother me so far, are candles made with ingredients such as tallow, beeswax, and scented with essential oil. Thank you for the interesting article!
